Psoriasis is a complex, chronic, multifactorial and inflammatory disease that involves the excessive proliferation of keratinocytes in the epidermis, along with an increased rate of epidermal cell production. Environmental, genetic and immune factors seem to play a role. This disease is mostly in the skin of the elbows, knees, scalp, lumbosacral areas, hip line and Genital. In 30% of patients, joints are also affected.

Diagnosis: Psoriasis is a chronic and recurrent disease that can be controlled by treatment in most people. Patients have red and scaly lesions with itching. These lesions can affect all parts of the body, but the most common areas include the head, elbows, and knees.

There is also a lower percentage of nail and joint involvement. Definitive diagnosis is based on examination and in some cases skin biopsy.

Treatment:

Treatment is based on the affected areas, extent of involvement, presence or absence of arthritis and thickness of plaques and crusts

Available treatments:

  1. Local treatment (Corticosteroid, Cool tar, Tazarotene)
  2. Phototherapy
  3. Oral and injectable treatments (Methotrexate, Cyclosporine, Neotigasone, Infliximab, Sinura)
